There are three different brands of energy drinks in the vending machine at work, and AMP Energy Drink by Mountain Dew is one of them. I must say I love the name, I mean it does describe how I feel after drinking an energy drink “AMPED”.
After tasting it for the first time, I would say that AMP Energy is by far one of the better tasting energy drinks out on the market today IMO. It essentially tastes almost exactly like Mountain Dew with a slight tartness to it.
The 16 ounce can packs 142 milligrams of caffeine(kind of weak for a 16oz.), as well as MDX5, taurine, ginseng, B-vitamins, guarana and maltodextrin.
As far as the AMPED factor goes, usually if I drink one of these after lunch, I can stay amped for a good 2 to 2 1/2 hours. It’s not one of the strongest energy drinks on the market, but it makes up for it in taste.
All in all, here is the final verdict:
Price: $2.29 16oz.
Taste: 8.5 out 10
AMPED Factor: 7.5 out of 10
Interesting Fact: One of the ingredients in Amp is Brominated Vegetable Oil aka BVO, which is used as an emulsifier in citrus-flavored soft drinks such as Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Powerade, Mello Yello, Pineapple and Orange Fanta, Sun Drop, Squirt and Fresca to help natural fat-soluble citrus flavors stay suspended in the drink and to produce a cloudy appearance.
